      Opening of Parliament

The Parliament of South Africa will be opening this year on the 9th of February where the President will give his annual State of the Nation Address and where politicians and dignitaries will consider more than 20 bills for this year.

While not everyone is invited inside the houses of Parliament for the State of the Nation Address, it is well worth departing from your Cape villas for a few hours and heading down to Plein Street to see what everyone is wearing. No matter how colourful or stylish, every outfit is bound to be a political if not fashion statement in its own right. Of course as a guest of one of our Cape Town villas, you are likely to stay in and watch the address from the comfort of your own Cape Town villa, which is no surprise as all as all of our Cape Town apartments are well equipped with excellent audio and visual equipment for you to enjoy the annual event.

So settle in to the plush furniture of your villa rental Cape Town and find out what is in store for our country this year as the various bills are discussed, including the much talked about Protection of Information Bill.

If you do decide to leave the comfort of your Cape Town luxury villas for one day and head down to Plein Street in the city center, near many of our luxury villas Cape Town, then be sure to take note of City Hall just around the corner from Plein. City Hall is the destination of many of the protest marches of the past. Some more local history lies just around the corner from Plein Street in the form of the Slave Lodge, on the corner of Adderley Street, this museum commemorates the slaves that were bought and sold on this spot.

      Club Galaxy and West End

Having opened its doors in 1978, Club Galaxy is practically an institution in Cape Town, your parents may have even danced there in their day, and it is certainly the best known and possibly the most loved club in the Cape Flats area.

Club Galaxy is situated in Athlone, this is a good 25 minute drive from our Camps Bay villas, a 20 minute drive from our Cape Town apartments in the city center and about 15 minutes from our Cape Town luxury villas in the Southern Suburbs.

Galaxy nightclub is set up like an old school disco and has all of the lighting displays, smoke machines and plush décor (think deep red velvet couches, black and white floor tiles and mirror mosaic) that you would expect of an old school club. Galaxy is where a guest of our Cape villas should go if they want to dance to house, hip hop and R&B and they regularly feature Goodhope FM DJ’s. Galaxy also has plenty of bars, so queuing for drinks shouldn’t be too much of a problem.

Thursday nights are traditionally Galaxy nights where ladies have free entry until 10:30. For over 21’s, the West End Club, which opened in 1993 above Galaxy, offers contemporary Jazz and caters to a slightly more mature crowd.

Perhaps Galaxy and West End can owe their success to the fact that they are constantly updating their image and upgrading their equipment and keeping current, as opposed to the multitude of clubs in the Cape Town area which have closed down around them since their opening.

For guests staying in our Cape Town villas who are looking for clubs a little closer to their villa rental Cape Town, Longstreet offers a variety of clubs and bars, guaranteed to suit every partying taste, from live music to dance music.

      Ciao Baby Cucina

Eden on the Bay, an up market shopping center with a row of fantastic restaurants all facing the ocean with a clear view of Table Mountain, is Big Bays version of the V&A Waterfront. Whether you are staying in one of our Cape Town villas, of which we have 8 in the West Coast area, or in one of our many Cape Town apartments in Town, you must make time to visit Eden on the Bay.

If you do go, be sure to go on a Sunday, this is when Eden on the Bay comes alive with various activities and promotions, it also seems to be the place where all the locals of the area hang out, giving it a lovely vibe. The best special offered on a Sunday is the R69 buffet breakfast at Ciao Baby Cucina, guests of our Cape villas will find it right at the end of the row of restaurants, but the view is no less stunning.

The R69 breakfast buffet at Ciao Baby Cucina includes an extensive array of breakfast fare divided into different sections, a cold section, offering cold meats, muesli, yogurts and stewed fruits; a warm section offering scrambled eggs, sausages, bacon and other breakfast meats and my favorite, the confectionary section. The restaurant bakes all of their own confections and guests of our Cape Town luxury villas dining at Ciao Baby Cucina should definitely sample their mini muffins, which are incredibly moist and their baby chocolate croissants, which are as cute as they are light.

After a hearty breakfast, engage the kids in some of the weekly activities, which include rides, a jumping castle, large, transparent, buoyant balls which they can be zipped into, allowing them to walk on water or various other ever changing activities. Go for a walk on the long stretch of beach before heading back to your Cape Town villa, or even a dip in the ocean if you’re brave, the sea on this side can be icy. If you are not so brave, wait until you get back to your villa rental Cape Town as many of our Camps Bay villas have their own (often heated) swimming pool.
